ULTRASONICS

Ultrasonics can be used to find internal defects and measure thicknesses in most materials including carbon steel, cast iron, stainless steel, aluminium, brass copper, Perspex, glass, fibreglass, epoxy, rubber and even concrete. The technique can be employed on the following items;

  • Conveyor belts

  • Conveyor chutes

  • Castings

  • Forgings

  • Tanks

  • Pipework

  • Pipelines

  • Hoppers

  • Roofs

  • Walls

  • Pylons

  • Structure

  • Ship loaders

  • Ship unloaders

  • Shafts

  • Ship hulls

  • Bolts

  • Engines

The technique uses a probe to create sound above the human hearing level. The sound then penetrates the object being inspected, If the sound hits an area of change in the material, a signal is then reflected back to the probe creating a signal on the screen.
